Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Dwight Way

This past month, we officially re-opened our Dwight Way Center with a moving ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new Dwight Way Center has been completely renovated and now offers comprehensive support to address the multifaceted causes of homelessness, providing stability, care, and pathways to self-sufficiency for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

“This building is proof of what is possible when a community chooses to show up for one another,” said Calleene Egan, Insight Housing CEO.

This site opened as transitional housing for women in 1992, and today it is home to three different housing programs: the first floor is a 32-bed women’s shelter, the second floor includes 12 beds of men’s transitional housing for Veterans, and the third floor is home to 15 Board and Care residents.

We were honored to be joined for the ribbon cutting by community leaders, partners, Insight Housing staff, and Dwight Way residents, including many of the partners who made this project possible!

Advocating for Behavioral Health Services Funding

This month, Program Manager Vernette Suggs and Public Policy and External Affairs Manager Elizabeth Potter attended an Alameda County Board of Supervisors hearing on funding shifts and cuts to behavioral health resources connected to Proposition 1. 

Vernette has over 30 years of experience in board and care housing and gave powerful public comment advocating for the continued funding of these essential community behavioral health services. Stay tuned for more information on future advocacy efforts in Alameda County and how you can get involved!

Gifts for Women's Shelter Participants 

VOICES of Alameda County Inc. recently donated over 30 gift bags to our Dwight Way Women’s Shelter. Each woman in the shelter will receive one of the bags containing notebooks, cosmetic items, skincare products, and other goodies.

VOICES of Alameda County Inc. is a local nonprofit that provides support to Bay Area survivors of gender-based violence. Receiving these gifts was a full circle moment. The organization was founded by Dorothy Mitchell, a former Insight Housing program participant and resident of our Women's Shelter.
